SpeedoHealer INSTALLATION
1999-2008 Yamaha RoadStar
Note: Use this guide in conjunction with the instructions received with your SH-Y01 harness kit.
It was pretty clean and easy to install my new SpeedoHealer to my 2003 Yamaha Road Star cruiser. I was a little apprehensive at first, since this little gem seems to be primarily marketed to sport bikes thus far. But all is well in big cruiser land, too.
I'm pretty sure these instructions should work equally well for all Road Stars, Warriors, Royal Stars, V-Stars, and Drag-Stars. They may also work for the V-Max and the Venture.
1. The SpeedoHealer installation instructions say to locate the Speed Sensor coupler. On the Road Star, you find them rising up from the rear of the engine area below the forward portion of the seat. But you have to remove the left side cover to see that well.
2. Disconnect the Speed Sensor coupler and connect the 3p connectors of the SH
harness.
3. Fit the unit. On the Road Star, the SpeedoHealer fits like a glove in the Left Side Cover Compartment, just below the main fuse box. Note: If you're installing on a different Yamaha Star model, you'll need to improvise a little. I used a large wire tie, which I got at a home improvement center or Radio Shack or somewhere, as the supplied wire ties weren't large enough. I wrapped my wire tie around a few anchor points. Be careful you don't get so foxy with your placement that you won't be able to reach the SpeedoHealer's Selector Button. Mine got hidden beneath the fuse box at first.
Tip: The Road Star is rideable with its side cover off. This makes your road tests and speedo corrections a breeze.
Keep the shiny side up!
